Virginia Lynne Wood, ‘Ginni’ to friends and family, was finally coming out of her shell. Ginni had always been a shy girl, very reserved, and described as an introvert.
In high school, Ginni bonded with another girl, who wasn’t shy, but had family struggles at home. Kelly Haskins and Ginni became best friends, and Kelly even moved in with Ginni and her family for a few months, due to some personal struggles in Kelly’s life.
In their senior year of high school, Kelly began dating Ervin Williams, who was a few years older. He also had a reputation for trouble, and Kelly soon fell into that world, even failing out of school.
Ginni maintained good grades through high school, however, and was accepted into Appalachian State University.
She began at App State in the fall of 2006.
Ginni and Kelly remained friends, despite their opposite nature and life paths. The day after Christmas in 2006, Kelly and Erwin decided to move to Brownsville, Texas.
In March of 2007, Ginni told her mom she was going to make the drive to Brownsville, Texas for spring break and visit her friend. Her mom wasn’t too worried but gave her a credit card for emergencies and told her to be careful.
