The Unsolved Disappearance of Melody McKoy
Melody McKoy was just a 12-year-old girl when she disappeared on December 1, 1991. She had the most beautiful smile, and was residing in one of West Baltimore’s ‘notorious’ rough neighborhoods.
Melody was spending the night at a friend’s house on Saturday November 30, 1991. Not much is known publicly about the friend or her family, but she did reside in a high-rise apartment building known to be a troubled area.
It wasn’t until Tuesday December 3, 1991 when Melody didn’t show up for school, that she was reported missing. When questioned about that, her mother stated that she just thought Melody was with her Aunt as she often spent the weekends with her aunt.
The police questioned the family she had spent the night with previously. The mother of the friend indicated that Melody was not there when she woke up on the morning of December 2. She had left her coat, but apparently took the coat of a boy that lived in the apartment. She also left her bike behind, although it was thought that the bike had a flat tire.
There were no sightings and no clues as to where Melody was. Police do not believe she ran away as she had no money, no means to take care of herself. Investigators do think she may have been abducted by a non-family member.
