Lori Boffman was a 45-year-old mom living in Liberty Township, Ohio in 2006 when she went missing.
On August 4, 2006, Lori Boffman was a happy woman. She had just won $1,000 in the lottery, and was excited to be able to purchase the food for an upcoming party for her daughter. She went to a grocery store in the middle of the night with an unidentified male friend and ordered food- in excess of $500.
August 5, 2006, Lori attended the party. This was a celebration since her daughter was home from college and they wanted to have a party before she returned. The family was concerned for Lori however, as they thought she had acted abnormally that day. She had been prescribed new diabetes medication and something for anxiety, and the family thought she possibly was affected by the new medications. Lori had not picked up the food she had ordered yet, and decided to leave the party to take a friend home.
She left the picnic with a friend (the identity never made public) and the friend asked to be let out of the car as Lori was driving erratically. For some reason, Lori did not take her purse, identification or even her medications with her that day.
Lori was not to be seen again.
On August 6, 2006, at 3:15am, Lori’s 1992 Mercury Sable was found abandoned, car door open and the engine still running. She had left her eyeglasses on the seat of the car, but there was no other sign of Lori anywhere.
Police spoke to neighbors who reported hearing a commotion before 3:00am, but no one saw anything. The car had some minor damage and police believe it was involved in a one-car accident. The car had hit a tree, and was sitting in the lawn of the library. The car was thoroughly searched & dusted for prints, but no evidence was found.
Lori had never abandoned her children before, and despite her odd behavior, the family does not think she just ran off- and if she had, she certainly would have returned or been found by now.
In one interview, there was a mention that Lori had a decent sum of money in the bank. Police believe that she may have been in a vulnerable state and it’s possibly- even likely- that someone may have taken advantage of her.
Since her disappearance, she had not cashed any checks, renewed her driver’s license, etc. Police did check out hospitals and mental hospitals, with no sign of Lori.
So here are the questions.
- Who is the friend that went to the grocery store with her to order the food- in the middle of the night?
- Why was her car left running at the scene?
- Were her medications indeed the cause of her strange behavior?
And of course: Where is Lori Boffman?
Investigators say she may also be going by her maiden name of Lori Stubbs, and if she did leave on her own, she may have made her way to Dallas, Texas, where she had family.
