Eleven years- to the day- before the attack on the World Trade Center Towers in New York City, there was another aircraft tragedy in the skies.

September 11th is a date embedded in many people’s minds forever. A date that is connected with horror, sadness, shock, and confusion.

A date Americans- and likely most of the world- will never forget.

But some families already had that date locked into their memory, years before September 11, 2001. Eleven years before, to be exact.

In the summer of 1990, Faucett Peru Airlines leased one of their Boeing 727s to Air Malta. Faucett Peru was a longstanding Airline in Peru, founded in 1928.

After Air Malta completed their lease, the aircraft was scheduled to be returned to Peru.

In September of 1990, plans were made to get the aircraft back to Peru.

The Boeing 727 was to fly back to Peru, bringing a total of 15 crew and passengers with it, all of them being Peruvian Nationals. Some of these were employees of Faucett Peru, mechanics, and ground crew, and some were civilian passengers.

The plan was simple. After leaving Malta, the aircraft would make four stops to refuel.
