Christina Monteiro, at age 19, found herself with a troubled crowd and addicted to heroin.

Her family last saw her in May or June 1988, as she led somewhat of a transient lifestyle. She was from New Bedford, Massachusetts.

The remains of nine women, all in their twenties and thirties, all of whom had issues with drugs and prostitution, were found along highways in New Bedford in 1988 and 1989. Investigators believe a serial killer might have been responsible.

Monteiro fits this profile and is believed to have been another victim in the series. The murders remain unsolved.

From OurBlackGirls.com:

The New Bedford Highway Killer sought out a specific type of victim. The nine murdered women had a few commonalities: they were prostitutes, drug abusers, or engaged in both. Victims included Robbin Rhodes (28), Rochelle Clifford Dopierala (28), Debroh Lynn McConnell (25), Debra Medeiros (30), Nancy Paiva (36), Debra DeMello (35), Mary Rose Santos (26), Sandra Botelho (24), and Dawn Mendes (25). All of the women were last seen sometime in 1988, and they were located either later that year or in 1989.

Christina is described as an African-American female. She stands around 5'5" and weighed around 110 pounds when she was last seen in the summer…
